6 Ways I wish I could start my day…

If I think about a perfect morning I see myself getting up after a good night’s rest (in my silk PJ’s). My hair in a perfect braid and my skin is glowing. Most importantly… my baby is still sound asleep in his big boy bed!

I walk to the bathroom, brush my teeth and take a shower bath. I soak for a good 30 minutes and get dressed. I don’t need make up today! Glowing skin… remember? I make myself some breakfast and tea and eat while going through social media.

Oh wait! The baby! I wake him up and give him a bath. I get him dressed and pressed. Ready for daycare and he eats his sandwich. No tantrums, no bad moods… Such a good boy!

As the Notorious BIG said: “It was all a dream”! I barely slept in the last weeks. Why? Don’t ask me… ask my baby boy. He just wouldn’t fall asleep. I tried everything. I Read all of the articles out there and even went for a drive to get him to fall asleep. I tried it all! Let me tell you something: Weeks of barely sleeping will make a woman go mad!!

So to keep from going mad I devised a list of ways I wish I could start my day. Just wishful thinking…

Wake up earlier

Waking up earlier enhances your productivity, helps you sustain a healthier lifestyle and gives you a better mental health. Due to less distractions in the morning it is said you can better focus on goals and you’re ready to take on the day!

I wonder if the ones who came up with this have kids…

Eat breakfast

Eating breakfast kickstarts your metabolism and helps you burn calories throughout the day. I wish I had more time to eat breakfast. After getting my little man dressed and fed it’s often time to leave. I take my breakfast in the car and it often consists of a plain bagel and some juice. Not a meal fit for queens.

Drink water

Ah! Finally!! Here’s one I do comply to! I have bottles of water everywhere I go. In my car, next to my bed, in the kitchen cabinets. Just anywhere! I’m obsessed with sparkling water. I don’t know why but it’s the best!

Drink more water folks! It keeps your skin nice and hydrated. Only downside is having to go to the bathroom every 2 minutes! Well… you can’t win them all!!

Don’t reach for your phone

This one is a challenge! That phone of mine is practically attached to me. According to studies I hijack my morning by grabbing for my phone. But… don’t they understand I have to see who missed me in the hours I’ve been sleeping? Isn’t there a hurricane I have to keep eye on? Did my dad send me one of his “morning prayers”? Oh and don’t forget about Instagram. Once I open it… I’m lost!

Maybe I have to try not to get to social media before noon for a week. See if that helps me…

Make your bed

It’s as if I hear my dear mother telling me to make my bed! Will it change the world? Will it cure cancer and solve the world hunger problems? Probably not! But it does help your daily productivity and it leads to other good habits.

I must say I comply to this most of the days. So mom… you did a great job! Now I shall pass this lesson down to the next in line.

 Happy tunes

Music is life! I barely watch television but I always have music playing. Whenever, wherever! So I got this down to perfection. I can tell you out of  experience that it really helps to start the day on a positive note. Singing with my 2 year old is also one of my favorite activities.

Looking at this list I still have a lot of work to do. I’m not perfect! I just wanted to keep it real and let you know that there’s no such thing as “the perfect morning”. Especially if you have kids. Just listen to your body and every now and again sleep in… If you have the time. That’s my advise!

You know what comes close to “a perfect morning” for me? Waking up and looking at my son. Happy and laughing! There’s no better feeling…
