Trends come and go. it’s hard to keep up with all the kids nowadays. don’t worry! every month i take time to alleviate you and i research all of these trends. the only thing i ask from you is to tell me… is it in taste or just waste!

So because this is the first edition of “Taste or Waste” I’ll talk about a few trends I’ve seen over the summer. It’s been a summer of more environmental conciousness, Instagram TV and the #inmyfeelingschallange. People are replacing plastic straws with aluminium straws, jumping out of cars while dancing and we saw what the “Plastic Soup” really entails (yikes!). Here are a few trends I took want to focus on!

We are more and more conscious about the environment. People are consuming like hell and leaving waste everywhere. A couple of years ago packaging-free supermarkets started popping up and encouraged customers to bring their own bags or use their compostable packaging. Hence, less waste and better for Mother Earth. One of the first trendsetters in this breed of sustainable shops is “Original Verpackt” in Berlin, Germany.

Many stores started out as being 100% packaging-free but this soon proved to be not profitable in this economy. So they compromised by removing slow-selling articles and replacing it with more popular items which are high in demand. A good example is operating a non-packaging concession stand within an organic supermarket. Rather then giving up the perfect package-free grocery model they narrowed their focus to zero waste, local food and community.

I think this is a noble cause but we still have a long way to go. We are so used to having our (plastic) bags ready for us and everything is packaged and vacuum sealed.

Let me know in the comments: Are you in or out?

I don’t know about this one. Sure, I’ve seen it in passing here and there but I never really thought about it. Last month, I saw Amber Rose talking about menstrual cups on her Instagram Story. For those of you who don’t know who she is… She is Kanye West’s ex-girlfriend or also known as Muva, Sebastian’s Mom, Ex-Stripper, Activist and an Entrepreneur (in her own words). Apparently, she started a partnership with INTIMINA, a Swedish Feminine Care Brand.

On the website it says…

Lily Cup Compact is the original collapsible cup – it folds
into a cute case the size of a lip balm
for leak-free protection wherever you go!

The cup is re-usable and according to INTIMINA it can be used for up to 10 years. Listen, I think the thought behind this product is very good. INTIMINA states that every woman uses more then 12.000 pads and tampons in her lifetime. If we switch to a menstrual cup it will be better for the environment and more hygienic.

Tell me: Is this genius or trash? Let me know!

Just out of nowhere it came… Instagram TV (IGTV)! When it first launched I was wondering what the difference would be from platforms like Youtube. IGTV is an app and you can also find it in Instagram. With IGTV you can upload video’s up to 1 hour in length. It’s also very user-friendly. You can like and react to the video’s just like on Instagram

You can see a clear devide. Youtubers don’t really know how to react to the coming of IGTV but on the other hand the influencers on Instagram hopped on the IGTV bus instantly. IGTV can be a perfect way to enhance engagement and your amount of followers. IGTV is directly competing with Youtube and Youtubers are a bit hesitant about it.

Lets just say IGTV is in its baby phase. It’s not monetized (yet) so I wonder how many Youtubers will invest their time to make content.

Is it worth your time or will you pass?

Fall and winter are approaching and I saw a few trends popping up.  The one that really caught my eye is the colorful plaid trend. I think it really brings a “ray of sun” into the normally dark and somber days of fall and winter. I dress pretty straight forward. Jeans and a T-shirt are my go-to and when I go out I take my “Fashionova THOT dress” out of the closet. I put on my full face of make up and my high heels. Girl… I’m ontouchable!

I can’t wait to see you all rockin’ this trend in these Streets. I don’t think it’s for me…

This man started as Kanye West’s best friend and ended up as artistic designer at Louis Vuitton men’s wear. Lets rewind… Back in the days Virgil and Kanye started an internship at Fendi and later they started the Milan based brand, “Off-White”. You know it… the red tag, the yellow band and Off-White printed on everything. Off-White did collaborations with Nike and Ikea (release in 2019).

This man’s success comes from hard work and dedication. His appointment at Loius Vuitton marks him the first person of African descent to lead the brand’s menswear line, as well as one of the few black designers at the helm of a major French fashion house.

What do you think? Is Virgil Abloh a “1 hit wonder” or is he here to stay?
